In 2012 Carolyn and her family moved to a 5-acre homestead in Vermont and so began her love affair with growing flowers, shrubs, and trees, foraging for roadside flowers and learning to identifying native and invasive plants. All of which inform her art practice. Color and shape are key interests in her work. Her painting celebrates the ephemeral nature and seasonality of New England, drawing her to record what nature gifts her from the garden, along her dirt road and the broader New England landscape.

Carolyn discovered quilt making when she moved to New England in 2000. Embroidery and cloth were already a part of her art practice and so quilt making was a natural fit. Her hand quilted works use color and needle turned applique shapes to form improvised patterns and relationships.

Carolyn Begley works from her home studio in Vermont. She holds a BA (fine arts) from RMIT Melbourne, Australia and an M.Ed from Antioch University, Keene, NH.
