seed cake and potatoes

For the third year running we have hailed in the New Year by watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This year had to be bumped into a two day affair since we got off to a bit of a late start. The really exciting change we make to this year’s event was the addition of seven hobbit meals. Quite a lot of deliberation, planning and preparation went into the menu. We went for petite servings - although there was no hard and fast rule on that one - it went kind of like this:

Breakfast -eggs and sausage

Second Breakfast - scones, jam and cream

Elevensies - tea sandwiches

Luncheon - potato leek soup

Afternoon tea - orange poppyseed cake

Dinner - roast porchetta, scallop potatoes, salad greens

Supper - terrine with stuffed mushrooms

Dinner was filled with conversation about the themes of the films and of course, the books. Identifying with the different characters and the aspects of the epic journey. It is cherished way to ring in the new year.
